Cult-Favorite ‘Fanboys’ DVD Due May 19

6 Mar, 2009 By: John Latchem

The long-awaited geekfest film Fanboys finally heads to DVD May 19 (prebook April 4) from Genius Products and The Weinstein Co.

The road-trip movie tells the story of a group of “Star Wars” fans who, in 1998, decide to break into George Lucas’ Skywalker ranch to steal an early print of Episode I.

The film had been slated for a February 2008 theatrical release but was put on hold for reshoots, inspiring an Internet movement when it was learned the film was being cut by the studio. It was eventually released on February 2009 and earned about $500,000 in limited release.

The film stars Sam Huntington (Superman Returns), Chris Marquette (The Girl Next Door), Dan Fogler (Balls of Fury), Jay Baruchel (Knocked Up) and Kristen Bell (Forgetting Sarah Marshall), and features cameos from the “Star Wars” saga's Carrie Fisher, Billy Dee Williams and Ray Park, along with Seth Rogen, Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes, Justin Long, Christopher MacDonald, Danny Trejo, Jamie King, Ethan Suplee, and William Shatner.

The $19.97 DVD includes cast and crew commentary, deleted scenes, and several making-of featurettes.
