Virgil Films Launches Digital Arm

Virgil Films has launched a digital distribution arm, Virgil Digital, based out of New York City.

Tim Maggiani, executive director of digital services, heads the division. He’ll report to Virgil president and CEO Joe Amodei.

“DVD is not dead and continues to be the driving financial force behind the business, but with each release, digital revenue continues to increase,” Amodei said. “Treating the releases and the business separately makes sense. We are on a direct basis with all of the digital accounts, which means there are no third parties when working with Virgil Digital.”

Virgil’s acquisitions will be released day-and-date on digital and DVD, including the upcoming releases To Whom It May Concern, The Tested and Breaking and Entering. Virgil’s digital content will reach more than 100 partners and devices, the company estimates.

“We’re extremely proud to have a catalog of films that continue to cultivate our strength in the digital marketplace,” Maggiani said. “From the very beginning, Virgil Films has always believed independent film and documentaries deserve to have focus, and that’s something we’ve been able to provide with the relationships we’ve built over the years. We look forward to continuing to grow Virgil’s footprint throughout the digital space.”
