Shout! Factory Acquires Entertainment Apps

11 Jun, 2012 By: Chris Tribbey

Shout! Factory has picked up three entertainment applications, including one specifically geared toward videos going back more than a century.

The Apple Video Time Machine application takes users on a multimedia trip covering more than 25,000 curated videos dating back more than 100 years. Users can search videos via year or genre, and categories include movies, TV, music, sports, music, games and advertising.

Shout! Factory has also acquired Political Time Machine, which has more than 2,500 political videos going back 100 years, and Holiday Time Machine, which features holiday-themed TV content, music and animation, and commercials.

“This acquisition brings together two popular entertainment brands that complement each other in many ways,” Shout! Factory’s founders Richard Foos, Bob Emmer and Garson Foos said in a statement, along with Fred Seibert, president and executive producer of Frederator Studios, which is partnering with Shout! Factory on the apps.

“As we continue to expand our footprint in sharing our pop culture faves across all major entertainment platforms, this is a dynamic business opportunity and positions us well to provide a unique entertainment experience at a time of exciting change in the entertainment industry,” the statement reads.

The applications run on iPads, iPod Touch and iPhones, and Shout! Factory plans on constantly updating them with new content. Android versions of the applications are also planned. Shout! Factory stated it was working on other applications.

Video Time Machine costs $2.99, while the other two apps are free.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
