Barbie is headed to the cloud.

Mattel Aug. 27 released Barbie Mariposa & the Fairy Princess into retail channels — the 26th direct-to-DVD Barbie animated movie distributed by Universal Studios Home Entertainment.

It's the first Barbie title featuring UltraViolet functionality, which means users can register the title at www.universaldigitalcopy.com and have digital access via any compatible connected device.

Barbie Mariposa ($26.98 SRP) is the royal ambassador sent to bring peace between her land, Flutterfield, and its rival, the Crystal Fairies of Shimmervale. Despite a rocky start, Mariposa becomes fast friends with the princess Catania. The adventure begins when Mariposa encounters an evil fairy plotting to destroy Shimmervale. Mariposa rushes to her friend’s side to help save the fairy land and together they prove the best way to make a friend is to be a friend.

The combo pack also includes myriad bonus features, including outtakes, "Barbie Mariposa and the Fairy Princess" music video, "Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse" music video, "Barbie in the Dreamhouse" episode and "Polly Pocket" episode.

Since the first Barbie DVD, Barbie in the Nutcracker, released in 2001 from Lionsgate, the brand has sold more than 110 million discs. Universal assumed distribution rights in 2006.
