Lionsgate U.K. replacing eOne for Summit films produced after July 2015

Lionsgate Sept. 8 announced subsidiary Lionsgate UK will assume distribution of all Summit Entertainment titles (produced after July 2015) in the region across all platforms, including home entertainment. Current distributor Entertainment One will continue to handle Summit titles produced before July 2015.

Lionsgate UK, which is headed by CEO Zygi Kamasa, currently distributes Lionsgate, third-party and locally-produced films. It posted revenue of $30 million in the most-recent fiscal period, compared with $32.4 million in the prior-year period.

The move follows the August announcement that Lionsgate was moving its international sales headquarters to London to be closer to key international markets. Lionsgate UK's distribution of Summit releases will include Allegiant Part 2, the fourth film in the "Divergent" franchise, which is slated to begin production in 2016 for worldwide release on March 24, 2017.

"Assuming responsibility for our Summit titles continues to enhance the critical mass of product we offer to our audiences and our buyers,” Kamasa said in a statement.

Lionsgate UK has overseen investment, production and distribution of more than 350 films, including more than 150 box office hits such as the "Hunger Games" franchise, the "Saw" horror franchise, Olympus Has Fallen, Cabin in the Woods and Steven Soderbergh’s Magic Mike.

The company also invested in local U.K. projects such as global hit Bend it Like Beckham, George Clooney's Oscar-nominated Good Night, and Good Luck, Lasse Hallstrom's Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, the adaptation of Eric Lomax's autobiography The Railway Man, starring Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman, and the upcoming A Little Chaos, directed by Alan Rickman and starring Kate Winslet, Stanley Tucci and Matthias Schoenaerts.

Meanwhile, eOne and Lionsgate recently announced expanding their partnership in three territories, with eOne continuing to distribute Lionsgate and Summit films across all territories in Canada and Spain and Summit titles in Australia through 2018.
