‘The Leopard’ Wins Top Blu-ray Prize from DEG: Japan

Luchino Visconti’s 1963 The Leopard (Il Gattopardo) has taken home grand prize honors from DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group Japan following its fourth Blu-ray Disc awards.

The Blu-ray was chosen among the winners of other categories a panel of judges voted on for the best of the best in high-def in 2011.

“The extensive visual expression is nothing less than impressive: The authentic texture of the count’s house that Visconti explored is portrayed brilliantly with tremendous impact through the golden curtains, crimson carpets and antique-looking walls,” the judges wrote in their comments for The Leopard.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon won the grand prize from consumers, who voted on the Web.
