Kids First! Aims to Close Deficit15 Jan, 2013 By: Chris Tribbey
Kids First!, which evaluates, rates and endorses children’s DVDs, games, films and TV shows, is reaching out to the industry for donations after suffering a $30,000 deficit in 2012.
The group, which makes its recommendations via volunteer juries of adults and children, is an offshoot of the nonprofit Coalition for Quality Children’s Media, which was established in 1991.
National Education Association, REEL Fathers, National Association of Elementary School Principals and the National Council of Women’s Organizations are among the nonprofit groups that back Kids First!
“We are making a small request of you in the form of a donation to Kids First! This is the first time that we have ever reached out to our publishing partners and asked for donations — either from you or from your friends, family and colleagues in your network,” Kids First! founder and president Ranny Levy wrote in an email.
The group is aiming to raise $30,000 by the end of March and has raised nearly $7,000 thus far, Levy said. If the group can raise another $10,000 by Feb. 15, it has a donor who will match that sum.
