Home Entertainment Analysts Working Under One Roof20 Dec, 2012 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Veteran media and entertainment analysts Eric Wold and David Miller are working for the same employer, following investment bank B. Riley & Co.’s acquisition of research firm Caris & Co.
The Dec. 17 deal, which added nine analysts, 12 salesmen and four traders to Los Angeles-based B. Riley’s operations, including offices in San Francisco, New York, San Diego and Atlanta, resulted in B. Riley’s Wold overlapping coverage on five stocks also followed by Caris’ Miller, including coveted Netflix.
Wold said he is keeping Netflix while Miller takes the lead on TiVo. Both analysts cover home entertainment extensively, with Wold a frequent contributor to Home Media Magazine.
Wold’s home entertainment stocks also include Coinstar/Redbox and Rovi Corp. Miller covers Time Warner, The Walt Disney Co., AMC Networks, Viacom/Paramount, Lionsgate, CBS and DreamWorks Animation, among others.
Miller, who once followed Image Entertainment, ceased coverage on the distributor after it scuttled a 2005 takeover attempt by Lionsgate. B.E.T. founder Bob Johnson’s RLJ Entertainment now owns Image.
