Gaiam Formally Extends WWE, Televisa Distribution Deals

14 May, 2013 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Gaiam Vivendi Entertainment May 14 officially announced previously disclosed multi-year extensions for home video distribution of WWE and Televisa programming.

The extensions were first disclosed in an interview with Gaiam CEO Bill Sondheim May 9 in Home Media Magazine.

The WWE pact includes 12 WWE pay-per-view events a year — such as WrestleMania and SummerSlam — as well as catalog of collectible titles throughout the United States on physical disc and digital platforms.

“WWE has been a true partner for us in every sense of the word,” Sondheim said in a statement. “Their dedicated fan base continues to power our promotions year after year, and this deal helps to energize our retail partners and further fuel our growth. We are excited to continue building exciting cross-promotional and merchandising opportunities with our physical and on-line retailers and key WWE partners.”

Separately, Gaiam’s distribution deal with Televisa means it will continue to distribute top-rated Univision telenovelas as “Amorcito Corazon,” “Por Ella Soy Eva” and “Abismo de Pasion,” in addition to the company’s family friendly programming such as “El Chavo Animado” and its growing catalog of Spanish language programming.

“Gaiam’s vast experience in the home entertainment and Spanish language programming space makes them an ideal partner for us,” Fernando Rondón, director of Televisa Home Entertainment, said in a statement. “They have been fantastic teammates and collaborators and we look forward to a long and productive home entertainment alliance.”
