26 Jan, 2011 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Image Entertainment is heralding the Jan. 25 Oscar nomination (best makeup) for Australian director Peter Weir’s The Way Back, which currently is playing in theaters nationwide.

Chatsworth, Calif.-based Image recently inked a domestic agreement for disc and electronic distribution with Newmarket Films, one of the producers of the film.

The Way Back chronicles the escape of a small group of multinational prisoners from a Siberian gulag in 1940 and their epic journey over thousands of miles across five hostile countries.

“We knew this film was award-winning when we first saw it,” said Bill Bromiley, chief acquisition officer for Image. “We’re so pleased the Academy has recognized it and are happy for our partners.”

The nominated makeup team on the film includes Edouard Henriques, Gregory Funk and Yolanda Toussieng, the latter winning Oscars twice for her work on Ed Wood and Mrs. Doubtfire.
