Distributor secures theatrical and home entertainment rights to four horror ‘B’ movies from noted genre directors
Image Entertainment July 6 said it inked North American rights to four horror films from noted directors Adam Rifkin (Detroit Rock City, The Dark Backward), Tim Sullivan (2001 Maniacs, Driftwood), Adam Green (Hatchet, Frozen) and Joe Lynch (Wrong Turn 2, Knights of Badassdom).
Chatsworth, Calif.-based Image said it plans to brand the films — Wadzilla, I Was A Teenage Werebear, The Diary of Anne Frankenstein and Zom-B-Movie — collectively as “Chillerama,” the ultimate midnight movie in limited theatrical runs, in addition to packaged and digital media.
Image’s chief acquisition officer Bill Bromiley said he wouldn’t rule out a potential road show marketing the films to their desired audiences.
“This title is a nightmare come true for anyone who loves horror films, twisted humor and skilled filmmaking,” Bromiley said.
The films were produced by Green’s ArieScope Pictures, which has produced several noted indie horror movies, including Hatchet, Hatchet 2, Frozen, Grace and Spiral, among others.
“The four directors of Chillerama are as much fans of horror film as they are filmmakers,” said Mark Ward, VP of acquisitions with Image.
