Image Acquires Madacy Home Video4 Oct, 2010 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Image Entertainment Oct. 4 said it signed a deal to acquire 70% ownership stake in independent distributor Madacy Home Video.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed, but Chatsworth, Calif.-based Image said it would acquire the remaining stake in the distributor before Aug. 14, 2014.
Madacy, which is a unit of Montreal-based music distributor Madacy Entertainment, distributes more than 100 titles including Lucille Ball’s “The Lucy Show”, “Bonanza” and “The Beverly Hillbillies.” Also included is The John Wayne Collection, Hell in the Pacific and the documentaries “Our Planet Earth,” “World War II Battlefront” and “NASA – The Complete History.”
“Madacy has the rights to several gems from classic Hollywood as well as recently produced documentaries and special interest properties that will fit well within the Image family,” said CEO Ted Green, in a statement. “This acquisition allows us to expand our library quickly while affording us properties to leverage across several platforms.”
The acquisition follows a deal Image signed in August with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment that calls for the major studio to manufacture and distribute all of Image’s DVD and Blu-ray Disc titles.
