Gagnon Joins Image as EVP of Sales2 Feb, 2010 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Industry veteran Ray Gagnon has been hired by Image Entertainment as EVP of worldwide sales, reporting to Ted Green, chairman and CEO of the newly restructured Chatsworth, Calif.-based distributor.
Gagnon, who most recently held a similar position with Anchor Bay Entertainment, will spearhead overall direction of all sales efforts for Image, which struggled with financial and regulatory issues during the latter half of 2009.
The executive, who has held senior sales positions with DreamWorks SKG, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment and Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment (formerly Buena Vista Home Entertainment), was twice named “vendor of the year,” reportedly the only sales executive at a home entertainment studio to win the award.
Gagnon is credited with pioneering direct sales accounts with major retailers, including Wal-Mart, K-Mart and Toys “R” Us, among others. While at DreamWorks, Gagnon held a seat on Wal-Mart’s vendor council and spearheaded global video sales of Shrek, while expanding the studio’s retail presence.
“Ray has an exceptional understanding of the ever-changing home entertainment marketplace and strong personal contacts that can only come from years in the industry," Green said, in a statement. "He is unmatched when it comes to directing the sales efforts and is a great asset to our team.”
Gagnon said the job at Image represents both significant challenges and opportunities.
Indeed, the distributor was informed by Nasdaq that its shares would no longer be classified on the market’s board beginning Feb. 3, due to a variety of issues, including failure to meet minimum capitalization levels.
