8 Jan, 2013 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Hulu Jan. 8 unveiled its 2013 slate of original programming and exclusive content, which features superheroes in training, rogue French cops, high-energy mascots and a “Desperate Housewife,” available on both the ad-supported service and subscription video-on-demand platform, Hulu Plus.

Hulu’s first animated original series, “The Awesomes,” is co-created by SNL head writer Seth Meyers and Michael Shoemaker ("Late Night with Jimmy Fallon"). "The Wrong Mans," is a comedic thriller co-produced with the BBC and created by and starring Tony Award winner James Corden ("Gavin and Stacey") and Mathew Baynton ("Spy"), and directed and produced by Jim Field Smith ("Episodes").

Also coming to Hulu is the debut of episodic documentaries "Behind the Mask," which explores the secret world of sports mascots. The project is created by Emmy award-winning filmmaker Josh Greenbaum and produced by Felipe Marino and Joe Neurater's Occupant Entertainment.

Exclusive series include French crime thriller "Braquo," the second seasons of hit Israeli series "Prisoners of War," British comedies "Pramface" and "Fresh Meat," and the fourth season of cult reality drama "The Only Way Is Essex.” Also joining the lineup is "Mother Up!," an animated adult comedy series starring Eva Longoria ("Desperate Housewives").

Hulu's exclusive series lineup now includes 20 premium television shows, underscoring a burgeoning trend among SVOD services seeking to lure and retain viewers.

Netflix this month will bow horror serial “Hemlock Grove,” while launching the second season of “Lilyhammer” and the debut of “House of Cards” next month.
