Hulu ‘Labs’ Tests Navigation Tools

Online repurposed TV programming aggregator Hulu has quietly unveiled a “labs” link that allows users to test experimental projects, including time-based browsing, customized widgets embedded on the site, interactive viewer ratings, and easier content control through Apple TV and Windows Media Center remotes.

The link, launched May 28, is intended to generate third-party assistance in ironing out kinks on potential new Hulu features, according to CTO Eric Feng.

“It’s uncanny how users can take features in directions you never thought of and teach you how to make them more interesting and useful along the way,” Feng said in a blog post.

For example, Hulu Desktop is a downloadable application that allows viewers to find and control Hulu content with a mouse and keyboard or any six-button PC or Mac remote control.

Feng said user feedback is welcomed on the Hulu Labs discussion board.

Hulu is co-owned by News Corp., NBC Universal and The Walt Disney Co.
