Target Has Cheaper Blu-ray Player as Competitor Prices Rise

6 Jan, 2009 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Despite tacking a $40 premium from its original price last month, Target Stores looks to be offering the least-expensive Blu-ray player at retail — the Olevia BD-100 player for $189.99 — based on ad circulars.

The profile 1.1 BD-100 includes Bonus View (picture-in-picture), but is not Internet connected, a prerequisite for BD Live functionality.

Following a near price war among retailers and manufacturers on BD players that saw some unit prices fall below $150 beginning the day after Thanksgiving (Black Friday) through Christmas, pricing has surged to $249 to $299 for most models.
