Sony Unveils New BD Burner

Sony Electronics’ third-generation internal Blu-ray Disc writer will be priced at about $400 upon its release in October. The drive can burn a 25GB disc in 15 minutes, or a 50GB disc in about a half-hour.

The BWU-200S will also record DVDs, CDs and supports DVD-RAM recording, and will come bundled with a Men in Black Blu-ray from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

“Consumers are demanding a better experience,” said Bob DeMoulin, marketing manager for branded storage products in Sony Electronics' IT Products Division. “Not only are we providing state-of-the-art hardware, but also the industry's most complete software bundle and premium content.”

The writer also will include Cyberlink software for editing, burning and viewing high-definition content. The writer can also record as much as 50GB of data for backup, or 320 minutes of high-definition video at 1080i.
