Sony Electronics Picks Opera for HDTV, Blu-ray Players19 Jan, 2011 By: Chris Tribbey
Sony Electronics has tapped Opera Software’s browser for its line of Bravia HDTVs and Blu-ray Disc players, bringing the browser best known for its presence on mobile devices to connected living room devices.
Opera said in a statement it aims to deliver a “lean-forward” interactive Internet experience with its browsers on Sony’s connected consumer electronics.
“The Web as we know it is evolving, and we are committed to making it more accessible across diverse devices,” said Christen Krogh, chief development officer for Opera Software. “Our ability to address key hybrid broadcast-broadband initiatives in numerous markets makes us a natural fit with Sony.
“By delivering both a global viewpoint and the necessary technology, we are able to stay on the cutting edge of the industry.”
It was not immediately clear when the browser would be outfitted on Sony’s hardware.
