Report: HD Set Top Box Revenue to Increase 61% by 2014

4 Aug, 2010 By: Erik Gruenwedel

With the proliferation of high-definition television sales, migration from standard-definition digital set-top-box to HD units should result in revenue increases approaching 61% by 2014, according to a new report.

Scottsdale, Ariz.-based research firm In-Stat said the resulting decline in standard-definition viewing would see SD set-top box revenue drop from $1.4 billion currently to $438 million over the next five years.

The report found that while worldwide set-top-box unit shipments will decline 10% through 2014, digital video recorder (DVR) unit shipments will increase 57%, spearheaded by growth in Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe.
