Paramount Unveils 'Transformers' AR Experience for iOS

21 Nov, 2017 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Paramount Home Media Distribution Nov. 21 unveiled a free augmented reality experience app for iOS users to coincide with the retail release of Transformers: The Last Knight on 4K Ultra-HD. The movie was released Sept. 26 on DVD/Blu-ray/4K Blu-ray Disc. This is Paramount's first AR experience.

Using Apple ARKit technology, Viacom’s VR team incorporated content from The Last Knight into the app, which is free to download from the App Store until Feb. 20, 2018.

The app overlays 3D graphics onto a user’s surrounding physical space, designed as the virtual junkyard of protagonist Cade Yeager as seen in Transformers: The Last Knight.

Players control the actions of Bumblebee, directing his movements while hitting, blowing up and interacting with various objects, which can be added to expand the interactive environment.

“This augmented reality experience gives fans the chance to interact with the 'Transformers' universe in a new and exciting way,” Howard Hsieh, VP of worldwide digital business development, Paramount Home Media Distribution, said in a statement.

The Transformers 5-movie Collection is also available on 4K HDR for purchase exclusively on iTunes.
