Google Play Offers Movies in HDR

13 Jul, 2017 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Google Play July 12 announced the launch of HDR (high dynamic range) playback for myriad movies available for sale on the digital retail platform. HDR will first be available in the U.S. and Canada for users with devices capable of displaying HDR such as 4K Ultra High-Definition televisions.

With HDR, consumers can now buy movies like Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them with better contrast, greater brightness levels and sharper images than standard HD.

Google Play also launched HDR for Chromecast Ultra users with many of Google Play’s major studio partners, including Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and Warner Bros.
