Series is available on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc March 28

Dish Network Feb. 18 is set to broadcast natural history series “Planet Earth II” in 4K Ultra HD resolution. The show, which is narrated by British TV broadcaster/naturalist David Attenborough, will simulcast on BBC America, AMC and SundanceTV — with subsequent episodes airing on BBCA every Saturday night.

Dish last August broadcast NBC’s coverage of the “Games of the XXXI Olympiad” from Rio de Janeiro in 4K, with coverage made available on 24-hour delay.

The satellite TV operator is also offering a free preview of BBC America through March 30, giving subscribers access to “Planet Earth II” in both 4K and HD at no extra cost.

“It’s been more than 10 years since the world was first wowed by the original Planet Earth, and the second installment promises to deliver unmatched detail in crystal clear 4K resolution,” Vivek Khemka, EVP and CTO at Dish, said in a statement.

Notably, the complete series will be available in North America March 28 on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc.

Lesley Johnson, operations director for BBC Worldwide, contends the packaged-media option is the best for true HD fans.

“The vastly improved compression of UHD Blu-ray with HDR (high dynamic range) means the experience is up to 10 times better than any broadcast or streaming service can provide,” he said
