Blu-ray Boosts DTS’ Q317 Nov, 2008 By: Chris Tribbey
Entertainment technology company DTS is seeing a big boost from Blu-ray Disc hardware using the company’s audio technology.
The company’s third-quarter revenue was up to $13.9 million, compared to $10.7 million during the same period last year, with profits up to $2 million, compared to $840,000 during the same period of 2007.
DTS CFO Melvin Flanigan said the profits were a direct result of “an impressive 67% jump” in revenue from Blu-ray during the quarter (compared to the third quarter of 2007).
“Blu-ray products accounted for 11% of our revenue in the third quarter …” said DTS president and CEO Jon Kirchner. “Sales of standalone Blu-ray players and Blu-ray enabled PCs are now supplementing revenue from game consoles which previously constituted the majority of Blu-ray product shipments.”
