Acorn Media to Release New ‘Foyle’s War’ Series on Disc, Broadcast and SVOD21 Aug, 2013 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Acorn Media Aug. 21 said it will release the latest season of acclaimed post-World War Two British TV series, “Foyle’s War” on DVD and Blu-ray Disc within days of the show’s broadcast on PBS’ Masterpiece Mystery! and streaming on www.Acorn.TV — the RLJ Entertainment-owned proprietary digital channel.
“Foyle’s War” stars Michael Kitchen as retired DCS Christopher Foyle, who joins Britain’s secret intelligence service and reunites with his former colleague, newlywed Sam Wainwright (Honeysuckle Weeks), to face new threats in the world of spies and counterintelligence.
“Foyle’s War” premieres its new Masterpiece Mystery! season on Sept. 15, 22 and 29. Each episode will stream the next day on Acorn.TV, the first British TV focused streaming service in North America. The service also offers previous episodes for catch-up viewing.
Additionally, the new episodes will bow on DVD and, for the first time, Blu-ray on Sept. 24 — the latter featuring the complete U.K. broadcast edition and nearly two hours of bonus features, which include a recap of the first six seasons, four behind-the-scenes featurettes and introductions by writer-creator Anthony Horowitz, among other material.
“Since acquiring 'Foyle’s War' in November 2010, we have been working closely with its creators to develop these new episodes,” RLJ Entertainment CEO Miguel Penella said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to offer these exciting new episodes across several platforms (broadcast, digital and home video), so consumers can watch them whenever and however they like.”
