With the Super Bowl widely considered one of the biggest live-television/marketing events of the year, consumer electronics retailers have upped promotional efforts for the Feb. 7 game in Miami between the Indianapolis Colts and first-time participant New Orleans Saints.

Wal-Mart Feb. 1 said it is offering a 1080p Sanyo 37-inch LCD TV and party tray for eight people for less than $500, as part of a weeklong “Gametime” promotion. The party tray also is available separately for $44.

The world’s largest retailer is also discounting selected HDTVs from $100 to $300.

Most CE retailers continue to offer free or significantly discounted Blu-ray Disc players with the purchase of a HDTV or home theater system.

Best Buy, which is offering a free Samsung BD player with the purchase of select Samsung TVs above 40-inch screen size, cut by 50% the price of its Geek Squad in-home installation service with the purchase of a Insignia house brand TV and wireless Blu-ray player.

Target is offering deals this week on select HDTVs from Philips, Vizio, Panasonic and Samsung.
