‘The Pacific’ Lands on Disc Nov. 24 Jun, 2010 By: John Latchem
The World War II miniseries The Pacific will invade DVD and Blu-ray Disc Nov. 2 (order date Sept. 28) from HBO Home Entertainment.
The 10-part saga chronicles the lives of several U.S. Marines as they fight in the Pacific theater against the Japanese from 1942 to 1945. The Pacific stars James Badge Dale, Joe Mazzello and Jon Seda, and was produced by Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg and Gary Goetzman as a follow-up to 2001’s Band of Brothers, which chronicled the war in Europe after D-Day.
The six-disc Pacific DVD ($79.99) and Blu-ray ($99.98) sets include “Historical Backgrounds,” the five-minute prologues for each episode narrated by Hanks; the featurette “Making The Pacific”; “Profiles of The Pacific,” about the real Marines featured in the miniseries; and “Anatomy of the Pacific War,” a look at the historical influences and cultural perceptions that led to the brutality of the war.
In addition, the Blu-ray version will include an enhanced viewing mode with picture-in-picture content such as interviews, archive footage and maps; and “The Pacific Field Guide,” which allows viewers to navigate through the major events featured in the miniseries.
