HBO Sells Shows A La Carte on Google Play8 Oct, 2013 By: Chris Tribbey
HBO Oct. 8 began offering several of its hit shows for individual purchase via Google Play.
“Game of Thrones,” “True Blood,” The Newsroom” and several other HBO shows are now available via Google Play, with HBO promising to add more in the coming months. Pricing is up to $3 an episode and nearly $30 for a full season.
The move could help HBO bring in non-subscribers who’ve previously resorted to pirating its content. The March 31 season-three premiere of “Game of Thrones” was downloaded more than a million times less than 24 hours after it aired.
Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes in late September told a group of investors that bringing in some of the approximately 70 million domestic households not subscribing to HBO would be a good thing.
