Hard drive manufacturer Western Digital Corp. Jan. 18 reported a second-quarter (ended Dec. 31, 2010) net income of $225 million, down nearly 48% from a net income of $429 million during the previous-year period.
Irvine, Calif.-based WD manufactures and sells several home entertainment devices, including the WD TV Live media player featuring Netflix streaming, Blockbuster On Demand movie rentals, Facebook, YouTube video, Flickr, Pandora and related content.
Revenue in the quarter approached nearly $2.5 billion, down 4.5% from revenue of $2.6 billion last year. The company shipped 52.2 million hard drive units, compared with 49.5 million units last year.
