Sony Licenses Macrovision Tech1 Jun, 2009 By: Chris Tribbey
Macrovision — which is changing its name to Rovi — has licensed its interactive program technology (IPG) and related patents to Sony. The multiyear deal gives Sony access to the technology under Macrovision’s Gemstar label.
“It’s an exciting time for the entertainment and consumer electronics industry,” said Simon Adams, SVP of marketing and sales at Macrovision. “Technology advances are now coming to fruition in the living room and will change the way that people view their TV sets and other consumer electronic devices.”
The IPG technology is used for interactive program guides in TVs, DVDs, Blu-ray Disc recorders and other consumer electronics.
