'Slumdog' Retail DVD Missing Extras1 Apr, 2009 By: Erik Gruenwedel
20th Century Fox Home Entertainment April 1 said it had set up a hotline telephone number (1-888-223-4FOX) for consumers who purchased the March 31 DVD release of Slumdog Millionaire that did not include special features.
The sellthrough DVD lacked the "making of" documentary and deleted scenes, bonus material originally slated not to be included in the separate rental release.
The title, along with Marley & Me, marked Fox’s first time implementation of separate packaging and SKUs on select rental and sellthrough Blu-ray and DVD titles. The new policy, announced earlier this month, was met with considerable criticism from retailers.
“We are aware that special features were missing from a number of Slumdog Millionaire DVDs,” Amazon said on its Web site.
The problem did not occur on the Blu-ray version, or with the Marley & Me releases.
Fox said it regretted any inconvenience the issue had caused.
