Fox Donates to Dodgers Dreamfields Program as Part of ‘Sandlot’ Promo20 Aug, 2013 By: Chris Tribbey
20th Century Fox Home Entertainment is donating $25,000 to the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation for its Dodger Dreamfields program and will show fans attending the Dodgers’ Sept. 1 game vs. the San Diego Padres a screening of the studio’s classic baseball film The Sandlot.
Released as a 20th anniversary edition on Blu-ray Disc earlier this year, The Sandlot is directed, narrated and co-written by David Mickey Evans, who will be on hand at the Sept. 1 Dodgers game for a Q&A. Producer Cathleen Summers and cast members Patrick Renna, Chauncey Leopardi, Marty York, Grant Gelt, Victor DiMattia, Shane Obedinksi and Daniel Zacapa are slated to attend as well.
The Q&A will take place following the game and prior to the screening, which is included in the game’s ticket price.
“The Sandlot is one of those cinematic gems whose classic lines and iconic characters continue to resonate with and inspire fans young and old,” said Mary Daily, president and chief marketing officer of worldwide marketing for 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. “This summer we’ve traveled the country in partnership with Major League ballparks to help restore sandlots in their communities, and we’re excited to cement this beloved film’s 20th anniversary with our hometown team the Los Angeles Dodgers.”
The Dodgers Dreamfields program refurbishes baseball fields in lower income communities and typically includes upgrades to backstops, addition of roofs over dugouts, bench upgrades, irrigation improvements, re-grading, turf renovation and new scoreboards. The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation has three more Dreamfields dedications planned for 2013.
“Our fans thoroughly enjoyed the first movie screening ever at Dodger Stadium of 42,” said Dodgers’ president Stan Kasten.“What better way to follow this, but with the showing of one of the finest baseball movies ever in The Sandlot.”
