‘Family Guy’ Spoof of ‘Empire Strikes Back’ Hits Disc Dec. 22

21 Aug, 2009 By: John Latchem

Family Guy Presents: Blue Harvest was one of the more-popular episodes of the animated sitcom "Family Guy," and the January 2008 DVD release of the Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope spoof was a top seller as well.

The show’s success has prompted “Family Guy” to spoof Star Wars: Episode V — The Empire Strikes Back. The special episode, called Family Guy Presents: Something, Something, Something, Darkside, will be released Dec. 22 exclusively on DVD ($22.98) and Blu-ray ($29.99) by 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. Order date is Nov. 25.

Both versions will come with commentary, deleted scenes, animatics, pop-up video and the behind-the-scenes featurette “The Darkside of Poster Art.” The Blu-ray edition also comes with a digital copy.

The “Family Guy” creative team is also hard at work at a Star Wars: Episode VI — Return of the Jedi spoof, called Family Guy Presents: We Have a Bad Feeling About This. Series creator Seth MacFarlane confirmed at the 2009 San Diego Comic-Con International that the Jedi episode would feature characters from not just “Family Guy,” but also “American Dad” and “The Cleveland Show.”
