Retail Decisions, a company that provides credit card services, estimates U.S. consumers spent a combined $5.3 billion on Black Friday (Nov. 27) and Cyber Monday (Nov. 30) combined, up 47% from that number in 2008.
The company estimates consumers spent $2.2 billion on Cyber Monday, up 35% on last year, and $3.1 billion on Black Friday, up 52% from 2008.
“Online retailers started discounting heavily on Black Friday, luring consumers with cash back offers, free shipping and special deals on the most popular products,” said Carl Clump, CEO of Retail Decisions. “Whilst Black Friday was by far the busiest day, retailers continued to compete for sales on Cyber Monday as shoppers scooped online deals.”
The company listed the following as the top 10 performing consumer products online:
1. TomTom GPS Navigation System
2. Kodak Digital Camera
3. Nintendo Wii
4. Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs DVD (Fox)
5. Sony Digital Camera
6. Sansui 19-inch LCD TV
7. Sony Bravia LCD TV
8. Ginii Digital Photo Frame
9. PlayStation 3 120GB
10. Samsung Digital Camera
Separately, multimedia retailer QVC.com reported its highest-ever traffic on Cyber Monday, netting more than 1 million unique visitors, up from its previous record of more than 842,000 unique visitors achieved during Cyber Monday of 2008.
