19 Jun, 2017 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Sales of video games, hardware and accessories dropped 11% to $542 million in May, compared with $609 million in the previous-year period, according to new data from The NPD Group.

Hardware sales increased 7% to $147 million, from $158 million, due in large part to sales of Nintendo’s Switch platform. Accessories increased 1% to $112 million, from $113 million.

Undermining the aforementioned data was software — now and used. New packaged-media game sales dropped 20% to $271 million, from $338 million, while PC-based games fell 48% to $12 million, from $23 million.

The top-selling console was PlayStation 4, followed by Xbox One and Nintendo.
