Lionsgate Ups Q1 Home Entertainment Revenue 58%

Lionsgate saw first-quarter (ended June 30) home entertainment revenue from sales of movies and TV shows increase 58.4% to $237.6 million, compared with revenue of $150 million during the previous-year period, according to a regulatory filing.

As previously reported, home entertainment movie revenue included releases La La Land, John Wick Chapter 2, Power Rangers and The Shack. In the previous-year period movie revenue included Gods of Egypt, Dirty Grandpa, The Choice and Norm of the North.

Consolidated revenue included the merger of Starz (and former Starz Distribution), an increase in motion-picture sales, offset by a decrease in television production revenue driven by lower domestic television sales as a result of fewer television episodes delivered in the current quarter.

Home entertainment revenue from TV content decreased 47% to $3.6 million, from $6.8 million a year ago.

Packaged-media sales of movies increased 98.3% to $93.6 million, from $47.2 million a year ago. Disc sales from third-party titles, direct-to-video, Lionsgate Premiere and Codeblack Films increased 39% to $38.9 million, from $28 million.

Digital revenue, which includes electronic sellthrough and digital rental, of movies increased 12% to $57.4 million, from $51.2 million. Digital revenue from third-party titles, direct-to-video, Lionsgate Premiere and Codeblack Films, among others, increased 162% to $44.1 million, compared with $16.8 million a year ago.
