'Deadpool,' 'Miss Peregrine' Home Entertainment Revenue Drives Fox Q2 Results

6 Feb, 2017 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Home Entertainment revenue from disc/digital sales of Deadpool and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children contributed to 20th Century Fox Studios Feb. 6 reporting second-quarter (ended Dec. 31, 2016) operating income of $389 million on revenue of $2.27 billion. The studio, which includes 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, reported operating income of $302 million on revenue of $2.36 billion during the previous-year period.

Quarterly revenue declined $92 million, primarily due to lower worldwide theatrical revenue, partially offset by higher television production revenue, led by the subscription video-on demand licensing of various TV shows.

Deadpool, the comedy superhero box office hit starring Ryan Reynolds, generated $81.2 million in revenue from more than 4.6 million discs — making it the No. 2 seller in 2016 after Disney/Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, according to The-Numbers.com.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children was released into retail channels Dec. 13. It ranked 3rd in opening-week sales according to NPD VideoScan First Alert.
