30 Mar, 2009 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Upstart streaming service ZillionTV and The Weinstein Co. March 30 inked a distribution deal that was announced at the ongoing International Content Market for Interactive Media (MIPTV) in Cannes, France.

The Santa Monica, Calif.-based video-on-demand (VOD) service — expected to launch in mid-fourth quarter — will deliver instant, on-demand streaming video via a tiny remote that sits atop an HDTV with no hard drive.

Weinstein Co. joins Zillion’s roster of more than 40 content providers, including The Walt Disney Co., 20th Century Fox Television, NBC Universal, Sony Pictures and Warner Bros. Digital Distribution.

As a result noted Weinstein Co.’s movies ranging from Soul Men and Vicky Cristina Barcelona to The Reader and Zack and Miri Make a Porno will be available on ZillionTV later this year.

“We are actively seeking digital distribution models to deliver our films to new audiences,” said David Spiegelman, president of domestic TV and distribution for TWC. “Zillion provides us with the perfect method, giving us the opportunity to offer a wide variety of titles, all of which will be prominently featured on the service through its customizable platform.”
