TiVo Bows One-Stop Set-Top Box3 Mar, 2010 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Digital video recording pioneer TiVo March 3 unveiled two new set-top boxes capable of delivering cable programming, movie streams, and video and music downloads from one device.
The TiVo Premiere ($299.99) and Premiere XL ($499.99) can store upwards of 45 hours of high-definition (400 hours standard-definition) and 150 hours HD and 1,350 standard-definition programming, respectively.
The units, which feature Adobe Flash software, 1080p resolution, HDMI, USB, SD ports and Ethernet connections, will be available in April.
Internal entertainment options include Netflix movie streams, Blockbuster On Demand new releases, YouTube videos and Pandora music downloads.
The boxes require monthly TiVo, Netflix, Pandora and cable subscriptions.
Separately, TiVo in May will bow a wireless adaptor to connect multiple TiVo devices throughout a home. Later this year the Alviso, Calif.-based company will offer a Qwerty-based remote control with Bluetooth connectivity.
“The beauty of TiVo Premiere is that finding what to watch is just as fun as watching the TV shows themselves,” CEO Tom Rogers said in a statement.
