Sonic Touts Online Movie Distribution Prowess21 Oct, 2010 By: Erik Gruenwedel
With digital distribution of movies and television programming expected to be a strong selling point among consumer electronics retailers this holiday season, Sonic Solutions Oct. 21 reiterated its position as a key provider of the back-end technology powering hundreds of connected devices.
The Novato, Calif.-based company’s RoxioNow software is included in number of new HDTVs, Blu-ray Disc players, digital media adapters, and mobile handsets from manufacturers including HTC, Insignia, Integra, LG, Magnavox, Memorex, Onkyo, Panasonic, Phillips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, Sylvania, Toshiba, Western Digital and VIZIO.
Sonic CEO Dave Habiger said the company remains on pace to surpass its goal of 30 million RoxioNow-enabled devices by June 2011.
“Although Sonic already supports the most movie storefronts and, with the recent addition of DivX, has technology residing on the largest network of devices, we will continue to scale our platform in order to fully establish online entertainment distribution as the most efficient and profitable delivery system for entertainment,” Habiger said in a statement.
He joined representatives from Best Buy, Panasonic and Samsung to open the day’s trading session on NASDAQ.
