Report: Mobile Web Users Have Doubled

17 Mar, 2009 By: Chris Tribbey

Twice as many people today are accessing the Internet on the go, compared to a year ago, according to Internet trend research firm comScore.

It found that roughly 63 million people accessed the Internet on their mobile devices in January, and 35% of those said they did so on a daily basis. Nearly 20,000 were accessing the Internet on their mobile devices once a week.

“Over the course of the past year, we have seen use of mobile Internet evolve from an occasional activity to being a daily part of people’s lives,” said Mark Donovan, SVP of mobile for comScore. “This underscores the growing importance of the mobile medium as consumers become more reliant on their mobile devices to access time-sensitive and utilitarian information.”

News dominates the content mobile Internet users are accessing, with social networking and stock information sites coming in second and third, respectively.
