Report: IPTV Market to Triple By 20122 Feb, 2009 By: Chris Tribbey
An In-Stat research report says fewer restrictions on Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) in emerging markets will grow the IPTV marketing three-fold by 2012, to 71.6 million subscribers.
“A number of new countries, including places as varied as Montenegro, Jordan and Ghana, saw the launch of their first commercial IPTV offerings in 2008,” said In-Stat analyst Michelle Abraham. “Only a few markets, like Japan and Argentina, remain hamstrung by restrictions that hinder incumbent operators.”
Brazil, Korea and India have all had recent regulatory changes that have helped IPTV businesses, In-Stat said, with companies like AT&T, Verizon and France Telecom remaining key players in IPTV services.
