Report: Better Phones Equal Better Opportunities For Mobile Video29 Jul, 2009 By: Chris Tribbey
Watching TV or movies on a tiny, portable media device may seem silly to some, but it was already a $6.7 billion worldwide industry by the end of 2008, according to research firm Research & Markets.
With the fast evolution of viewer-friendly sets, that business is expected to nearly triple to $18.2 billion worldwide in 2013, according to a new report from the firm. The report, “Worldwide markets for mobile music, games, video and TV (2009-2013),” puts the total business of mobile services in 2013 at $47.2 billion.
Mobile music was the dominant force in the mobile entertainment business in 2008, with $11.7 billion in sales, and music will remain No. 1 in 2013, according to the report, with $19.2 billion in sales of full-track downloads, ringtones and streaming audio.
Mobile games chipped in $5.5 billion in 2008, and could hit $9.8 billion by 2013.
