11 Sep, 2008 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Seeking to inspire movie aficionados with engaging short films, Academy Award-winning producer Rob Fried (Rudy, Collateral, So I Married an Axe Murderer), launched SpiritClips.com in beta.

The ad-free site allows consumers to view original films (three-to-five-minutes long) in high-definition on a pay-per-view (99 cents per clip) or subscription basis. Content can also be purchased via customizable “FilmCards” that can be sent to third parties.

Films include: Sally, with Nancy Travis playing a harried waitress; Red; Indivisible, based on Senator John McCain’s POW experience; The Price of Miracles; The Fork; The Sign; La Cachette; The Cracked Pot; The Little Frog and The Hospital Window.

The site also finished its first on-location shoot in Montgomery, Ala., for the film Montgomery. The short is about Rosa Parks’ historic act of civil disobedience in 1955.

The site also features short stories that can read via electronic pages. Titles include: “Cure for the Deranged Mom,” “Baby Erik and the Old Man,” and “A Day at Baltimore Airport,” among 25 other selections.

“This venture fulfills a long-time ambition to create totally original content with the same craftsmanship and commitment to quality as a feature film, but in a manner that is best viewed online,” Fried said.
