Oscilloscope Laboratories has landed a distribution agreement with Warner Bros. Digital Distribution, and the two companies are already working on the release of a half-dozen titles this summer.
“We went out to breakfast with these cats, had a good time hanging out … so I said what the hell, they seem like they know what they're doing. Let's do this,” said Adam Yauch, head of Oscilloscope and a founding member of the Beastie Boys. Yauch and former ThinkFilm VP David Fenkel founded Oscilloscope and began releasing DVDs in mid-2008.
Warner Digital already worked with Oscilloscope on the May 5 release of Wendy and Lucy, which saw day-and-date releases on DVD, VOD, iTunes and major cable outlets. Next up are The Garden, Scott Walker: 30th Century Man, Frontrunners, Treeless Mountain and Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father.
The agreement covers VOD, download-to-own, cable and satellite ventures. Oscilloscope plans on releasing the films digitally after theatrical and, in some cases, day-and-date with theatrical.
