21 Apr, 2009 By: Chris Tribbey

Dolby Digital Plus audio tracks will begin appearing on programs from MTV, Lifetime Networks and the BBC.

Dolby Laboratories on April 21 said Harmonic Inc. is now using Dolby Digital Plus. Harmonic creates multiformat video (Internet, mobile and broadcast) for those media companies, as well as for Ascent Media, British Sky Broadcasting, and thePlatform.

“Its versatility and compatibility with the existing home theater environment make Dolby Digital Plus an ideal audio system for content authoring companies working to provide an uncompromised audio experience delivered online,” said Phil Bernosky, senior director of electronic media platform marketing at Dolby Laboratories.

The audio is now also a staple for Digital Rapids, which does encoding and streaming software for Internet TV and broadcasting.
