DivX Certifies HD Chip24 May, 2010 By: Chris Tribbey
Digital media company DivX has certified a circuit chip from semiconducter company Realtek that will allow for high-def playback of DivX videos on multimedia storage devices and set-top boxes.
The chip will allow for playback of all DivX formatted video via PCs or embedded, connected devices.
“Support of our latest DivX profile is accelerating and, thanks to [integrated circuit] licensees such as Realtek, we are fostering the development of DivX Plus HD Certified consumer electronics products,” said DivX CEO Kevin Hell. “These products enable playback of DivX, DivX HD and DivX Plus HD video on a variety of devices, from the PC to the TV.”
Realtek’s San Chung said the chip, RTD1283, will be seen in the next generation of consumer electronics devices.
“DivX Certification is clearly recognized and valued by consumer electronic device manufacturers,” he said.
