DivX Certifies Digital TV Chip

26 Oct, 2010 By: Chris Tribbey

Sonic Solutions’ DivX has given its first DivX Plus HD certification to a digital TV chip, from semiconductor company MStar.

The certification means digital TVs using the chips will be able to play DivX plus HD video, based on H.264 video compression technology.

“MStar’s adoption of DivX Plus HD technology will enable strong adoption in digital TV products,” said DivX GM and EVP Matt Milne. “This DTV chip is an important milestone for the DivX Plus HD program and an exciting step towards deployment in a new range of consumer electronics devices.”

More than 300 million devices capable of playing DivX video have shipped worldwide.
