4 Aug, 2009 By: Chris Tribbey

Panasonic’s 2009 Blu-ray Disc players will now carry Amazon’s Video On Demand service. A free software update for current owners of the Blu-ray players was made available Aug. 4.

“The addition in April 2009 of Amazon Video On Demand’s premium service to Panasonic Viera Cast-enabled HDTVs really took the entertainment experience to a whole new level for consumers,” said Merwan Mereby, Panasonic’s VP of new business development. “As promised in April, Panasonic is now pleased to deliver Amazon Video On Demand service to owners of our Blu-ray Disc players as well.”

Amazon VOD currently carries more than 45,000 titles, including more than 1,000 in high-def. The content can now be accessed on Panasonic Blu-ray models DMP-BD60, BD70V, BD80 and the portable B15. YouTube, Picasa Web Albums, weather information and Bloomberg News are also available on Panasonic HDTVs and Blu-ray players.

“Panasonic and Amazon Video On Demand have built a great customer experience that easily allows customers to shop, purchase or rent from our library,” said Bill Carr, Amazon VP of music and video.
