DVD Critics Awards Offers Special Consumer-Voting Categories

For the first time, the DVD Critics Awards are open to a consumer vote.

In addition to the regular categories for which winners are selected by a panel of judges, special categories have been created specifically for consumers, with nominees chosen from studio submissions to the DVD Critics Awards, and winners to be picked via an online vote held from Aug. 10-28.

The DVD Critics Awards honor the best DVDs and Blu-ray Disc titles released in 2008. The special consumer categories are listed below.

The Consumer Choice categories are presented by Home Media Magazine and its consumer-focused spinoff, AgentDVD.com. The Fifth Annual DVD Critics Awards will be presented at a gala dinner to be part of the 2009 Home Entertainment Summit: New Dimensions, planning for which is currently underway. If Tim Burton's film of "Sweeney Todd" had been a choice for best period piece of 2008, it would have gotten my vote.

The dark knight is one of the greatest movie of all-time.
