If you’re familiar at all with the tween set, you know that Nickelodeon’s “iCarly” is a mainstay for the age group and younger (even some parents like to catch the series with their kids). The Aug. 8 “iCarly” special “iFight Shelby Marx” drew 7.9 million viewers, setting a record for the series and helping it remain basic cable’s No. 1 kids’ program among total viewers.

Minor Details, a sort of “Nancy Drew” meets “iCarly,” is laser-targeted at the same audience. In fact, “iCarly’s” Jennette McCurdy (Sam on the show), plays Mia, one of a group of unlikely friends who join forces at boarding school Danforth Academy to find out who is trying to make the students sick.

A rash of food poisoning, first targeting the cheerleaders, then the soccer team and so on, is sending the student body out of the cafeteria to the vending machines. Is it rich girls Mia and Riley, the principal’s daughter Emily, the wacky Sean or the strange Professor Plume (no doubt an homage to Professor Plum in the classic board game Clue)? The girls follow evidence, including notes left by the poisoner (“Cheerleaders are ick … and they’re going to get sick”) to uncover the culprit.

Suitable for broadcast on a network such as Nickelodeon, there’s nothing here to offend. Minor Details plays like a pilot for a new tween series and includes some likable fresh faces in addition to McCurdy. The plot isn’t entirely predictable, which is a pleasant surprise, and both my 11-year-old and 7-year-old watched it twice. It’s a solid and safe choice for kids.
